Position Title: Executive Director

Status: Part Time

About the position:

This position will facilitate, coordinate, and administer all activities of Shepherd’s Center of Orange Park, FL (the Center) subject to the overall policies, guidelines and directions established by the Board of Trustees. In partnership with volunteer coordinators, develops specific plans to effectively implement authorized Center programs and activities. Coordinates and provides all other services, fund development, and support functions necessary to achieve Center goals and objectives within policy limits and financial constraints.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plans, organizes, and implements the daily activities and programs of the Center. Provides administrative assistance to all Program Coordinators in the ongoing delivery of Center programs and activities. Directs all volunteer coordinators and other personnel in the effective execution of their duties and responsibilities in the ongoing delivery of Center programs and activities.
  • Assists the Board with fundraising activities and plans to increase and enhance community financial support of Center activities. Implement fund raising activities including sponsorships with the assistance of the board.
  • Assures accurate financial records are maintained and summarized in periodic financial statements and reports. Assists the Treasurer with presentation of analysis of the Center’s financial status to the Board of Trustees as required.
  • Assures that all necessary records, files, reports, and materials are maintained regarding the Center’s operations and programs.
  • Establishes programs to recruit and train volunteers in various program areas.
  • Establishes an appropriate board organizational chart and assures filling defined positions approved by the entire board.
  • Reports regularly to the Board regarding the overall status of Center activities and operations. Develops recommendations for improvement and modification where necessary.
  • Establishes and maintains an effective system of communication among Board members, volunteers, sponsoring organizations, public and Aging Forward.
  • Represents the Center to various area sponsoring organizations, groups, governmental agencies, civic organizations, and similar groups. When possible and appropriate, recruits volunteer leaders to represent the Center to the Community.
  • Ensures that all Center activities are carried out in compliance with applicable laws and regulations and based on high ethical and moral standards of conduct.
  • Hire and oversee the position of Administrative Assistant.

1. Understanding of and Commitment to Voluntary Action

The Director must be dedicated to continuing and expanding voluntary participation in fulfilling the goals of the Center. Effective volunteer efforts increase the stability of Shepherd’s Center and its leadership in the community.

2. Enthusiasm about the Shepherd’s Center Concept and Principles

The Director must believe in the basic concept and be able to communicate enthusiasm to participants, volunteers, and supporters.

3. Versatility and Flexibility

The Director must be able to work with people of many different persuasions, unifying volunteer leadership to achieve the Center’s objectives. The ability to adapt to changing agendas, priorities, and resources is imperative.

4. Understanding of and Dedication to Olderr Adults

The Director must clearly understand and appreciate older adults to facilitate effective volunteer leadership.

5. Interest in Interfaith Collaboration

The Director must be enthusiastic about facilitating cooperative efforts with all faiths.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Three years related associate or executive director experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information using current technology, social media, and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public. Experience with Constant Contact a plus.

MATHEMATICAL

Ability to apply basic accounting principles and to prepare and interpret basic financial reports through accounting software and database software.

TECHNOLOGY SKILLS

Must be literate in Microsoft Office products. Has experience with Donor Databases. Is well versed in social media with the ability to create content for Facebook and other social media platforms deemed necessary by the board. Prefer Word Press experience.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to identify and solve problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret and translate an extensive variety of technical data.

REQUIREMENTS

Driver’s license. Employee is required to attend all sessions of Shepherd’s Center of Orange Park, Board of Trustees meetings, as well as, cluster and regional meetings held by Aging Forward. Requests to appear at various community organizations must be accommodated.

The employee occasionally is required to appear in an auditorium or meeting hall.
